Compression spring used in line on hi-tensile wire applications. We don't feel that they are a neccessity, but they do add a cushion to the fence wire. They are also good for beginners to learn proper tensioning as the spring shaft has notches showing tension applied, so you can get a good feel for 150 foot pounds of tension.
